Editorial Policy

TentBaseCamp exists to help readers choose camping gear they will genuinely be happy with. This editorial policy explains how we research, write, and maintain our content, and the standards we hold ourselves to.

How we research

Every recommendation on this site is built from independent sources rather than marketing copy. For each product we consider, we analyze verified owner reviews with particular attention to critical (three-star and lower) feedback, cross-reference manufacturer specifications such as materials and weather ratings, and check outdoor community discussion to distinguish genuine product flaws from user error. A product must clear our vetting on multiple fronts before we recommend it.

Editorial independence

Our recommendations are based solely on merit. We do not accept payment for placement, higher rankings, or favorable coverage. We do not include products that fail our vetting, even when the potential affiliate commission is attractive. When we identify drawbacks, we state them plainly — every product review includes honest cons, because every product has them.

Affiliate relationships

We fund the site through affiliate commissions, earning a small amount when readers purchase through our links at no extra cost to them. This relationship never influences our rankings or verdicts. Full details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Accuracy and updates

We strive for accuracy, but products, prices, and availability change constantly. We note that specification figures are typical published values and advise readers to confirm current details on the retailer's page before buying. We update our content periodically as products change, new options emerge, or we receive corrections.

Honesty about testing

We do not claim to have personally used every product we write about — no honest reviewer of a large catalog can. We are transparent that our recommendations come from structured analysis of reviews, specifications, and community feedback rather than hands-on testing of every item.

Corrections

If you spot an error, we want to fix it. Please reach out via our contact page, and we will review and correct verified mistakes promptly.
